Imagination is the point of intersection between the political, the artistic and the spiritual.
It is the cleavage between these spheres that enables the gang-raping of culture for the money machine . There isn't time to fool around chasing utopias.
Our politics needs imagination. Our imaginative arts need to recognise their political implications: to work for any value other than material gain is today an act of subversion. All needs a grounding in the spiritual.
The heirs of secular liberalism who form our political mainstream jabber about 'success', and do not see that people need also a sense of belonging. The language of belonging is annexed in Europe by the xenophobic right, in America by the fundamentalist right - or, worse, those who would hijack religion in pursuit of power.
We urgently need an inclusive language of belonging, a non-secular politics of hope rather than fear.
