As part of the Cube Cinema's Technique Over Technology day, members of various uo faculties are attending and have made a few thematic suggestions:

[edit] ESP vs GPS
(sarah lewison's suggestion made while in residence at LimehouseCampus helping to make the FacultyTaxonomyLibrary bags)
My co-ordinates were going to be:
Lat (WGS84) N51:27:50 ( 51.463889 ) Long (WGS84) W2:33:46 ( -2.562861 )
find me with a GPS or using ESP or using the pseudo-crypic-clue below. I will focus on the group of ESP finders, they can focus on me.

In the end Heath Bunting used auto-suggestion to implant a different set of co-ordinates in the mind of the challenger, winning the challenge for the ESP group. However, a few search teams were eventually formed, several using the clue, one using the GPS and one pure ESP. The clue users arrived first, followed by the GPS users, followed by the ESP user because he had to lock up the Cube when we left.
[edit] Mnemonics vs content management
- ACRONYMS. (works like this: AHYRM - Acronyms Help You Remember Things)
- ACROSTICS. (similar but using a sentence: eg. Every Good Boy Deserves Fun to remember the notes on a stave)
- RHYMES & RHYTHM. (remember remember the 5th November / Gunpowder, treason and plot / I see no reason why gunpowder and treason / should ever be forgot!)
- TOPOI/LOCI. (remembering by assigning things to be remembered to specific well-known and easy to visualise places)
- CHUNKING. (remembering long numbers by thinking of them as pairs of larger numbers ie. 53423498 becomes 53, 42, 34, 98)
- REPETITION. (practice makes perfect)
Report:
A workshop participant called Paul gave a talk about Topoi/Loci techniques he'd learned as part of his dyslexia provision. The other techniques were described and, to some extent employed in the practice of other challenges and demonstrations of technique. The proposed climax of this challenge (the committal to memory of the contents of a well-used palm pilot and it's subsequent burning) did not happen due to the failure of the (otherwise very successful and enjoyable) fire-making workshop's to produce sufficient heat.
[edit] Social vs technical engineering
The GPS vs. ESP challenge was effectively won by Social Engineering. Heath Bunting managed to use techniques of auto suggestion to force the GPS/ESP challenger from the uo to propose a location of his choice (the lebanese restaurant on the top of Prince St.), winning the challenge by default, so although this technique was not explicitly part of any challenge, it was put into action in this way.
[edit] Non-narcotic alteration of brain chemistry
developed wonderfully by A2RT who made a record-player powered version of Brion Gysin's dream machine and did a Chi Gung breathing session.
