Reconstruction

Reconstruction is what happens after deconstruction. Post-modernism frequently leaves its devotees caught by a nostalgia for the very things it critiques: 'Let us sit upon the ground and tell sad stories of the death of metanarratives', as Richard II would have put it.

Instead of wallowing in the self-indulgence of nihilism, we propose cultural relativism as a tool of hope that can lead to new cultural forms in which fluidity is not a threat but part of the very raison d'etre. Reconstruction does not mourn the death of centralised values and hierarchical power but instead to engage with and resist the diffuse voraciousness of the money machine and its relentless appropriation of dissent.

Reconstruction begins this resistance by deploying AppliedPoetics to create sites of shared experience. Reconstruction celebrates local and contingent opportunities for collaboration, in blithe defiance of the differences that may disrupt total confluence. Reconstruction resists the illusion of identification by remaining in motion. Reconstruction seeks to empower the individual in search for appropriate interdependences.
