A technique for achieving InsightRestructuring - without having to resort to StonerLogic ;) .

In his book, The Mechanism of Mind, Edward de Bono suggests that, "PO makes possible a type of thinking that would be impossible without it.".

This word is used to permit ideas, that don't make sense in our existing ConceptualFramework, to exist long enough for us to use them in the generation of new ideas. A person may use this word to signal that what follows is not conventional but should be treated as if it were true, at least for a while.

As an example a person may say, "PO pets should be provided on the NHS". This could spark a discussion about non-medical means of making people better.

A pertinent instance might be GOOM , which (as one of its champions pointed out in a moment of exhaustion) 'started as a joke'. Although the essence of GOOM is by definition unseen, GOOM is itself becoming indispensable as a way of talking about the intersection between practically everything else apart from GOOM.
