An imagined surface onto which we can project our thoughts.

This surface can have as many or as few dimensions as are needed for the problem at hand. There is also no need to be restricted to the three spatial dimensions of our everyday experience.

Our imagination can be assisted through the use of props. Something as simple as a collection of small stones, engraved sticks, up to sophisticated models running on the fastest computers - sometimes you are better off with the simpler, easy to grasp props.

While props are more constrained than raw imagination the conclusions we draw from their use fundamentally depends on the meaning we chose to project upon them.
