The thing most apparent from my trawl through the low-to-middle reaches of the semi/unskilled job market last year was the total lack of legitimacy in the working lives of most people in the postmodern economy. It's quite unusual for someone to earn a living doing something they don't believe to a greater or lesser extent to be bullshit. We don't believe a word our employers say, even as they ask us to mouth loyalty with ever greater fervency. Imagine writing a CV that wasn't bullshit. Imagine a job interview where you were honest. (Really, this is a postmodern, postindustrial turn on Marx's immiseration of the proletariat)
