[edit] Notes on Locative Media Consortium development.
- Establishment of a consortium of projects, groups and people interested in
locative media, and semantic web applications.
- formal structure is necessary to facilitate delivery to funders and
management of funds.
- possible choice / adaptation of 'co-operative' legal structure or similar.
- modular structure where politics, methodology and representation of
individual projects is necessary, so the structure must be as clear about
it's limitations and umbrella status as possible, while still acting as
some kind of 'quality of service' guarantee ;) for funders/collaborators.
- project management experience would be useful - ask Sara Diamond of Banff
for advice on this maybe? (MT)
- possibility to share a committment to pooling common resources such as
applications, utilities, namespaces, ontologies etc.. to prevent work
duplication and grow fast prototypes with real data (shared development
and bug-tracking system for example..?)
- possible development of shared goals / manifesto style document, requiring
a statement of intent from each participant?
- an interoperability/ standards effort
- self-conscious effort to produce a 'definitive event'.
- establishment of an institution responsible for data gardening and
conserving a global repositor of open geodata to be used by subgroups to
develop tools etc...
- establishign a repository of grant application modules to be re-assembled
and used by members of the consortium.
- Possible face-to-face meetings in the near future
- Transmediale, Jan 31st - 4th Feb 2004. - specifically 4th Feb. Berlin.
- Etcon Feb 9th - 12th, 2004, San Diego.
