Built in 1879 this Grade 2 listed building has been used as the National Museum of Labour History which was opened by the Prime Minister Harold Wilson. At one time it contained Prince Kropotkin's desk, which has since been returned to Brighton Trade's Council. Other famous visitors have included King George V and Queen Mary and Clement Atlee, who made a speech here in 1951. Since then it has been used as council offices, a boxing club and emergency winter accommodation for homeless people. Since February 2001, the Limehouse Town Hall Consortium have been developing the building as an independent space for cultural production and the arts.
