[edit] General ongoing points for discussion and action

  • The possibility of creating a "three boroughs" LETS system between Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Newham
  • The features of different online LETS and community exchange software now in development, with an eye to inter-networking them.
  • Use cases and requests for features from people running local LETS or wanting to do so.
  • The idea of Common bond LETS which are usually (and traditionally) one geographic area, like Credit Unions.
  • Seed projects which may have an art/intervention angle and not be aspiring immediately to full-blown trading system status.
  • LETS as a potential free infrastructure which can carry the value of 'soft' currencies such as reputation exchanged in collaboration into other domains without losing the social quality of the currency.

[edit] What are the outcomes?

  • The World Summit on Free Information Infrastructures, planned for October, is a week-long gathering of people and projects working on different kinds of open information exchange systems. Functioning, distributable LETS software and systems would interest many of the participants.
  • Resource-sharing between different software implemented LETS projects, and increased input into them of potential or actual user communities.
  • Regular technical help at all levels for established LETs communities, updates to various websites etc.
  • The bootstrapping of community exchange system experiments around Limehouse and east London.
  • We might think about possibilities, how to realise some necessary works on the building with LETS money.
  • Could there be a helpdesk or training as an anchor operation for social currency? See Curtiba recycling projects with bus tokens...
  • A mini-proceedings of the sessions and an development of the ideas coming from them, intended for publication as a piece of the Uo Journal: 'Communications of the UO' .

[edit] for further discussion...

  • There are lots of regional LETS in the UK and LETS in the south-east Has London had special problems? What are the potential solutions?
  • Exchange schemes with ethical motivators, such as in Jewish and Muslim business communities.
  • Parecon - looking for the hard core of implementable concept inside the participatory economics set of theories.
  • Some healthcare systems in London.
  • Necessity of quantifying abstract reward systems, such as the free software behaviour of indirect recompense.
  • possible ways of implementing a LETS scheme in an existing highly developed social currency, specifically - the BoxingClub (hosts of the LETSGetTogether).
  • The First short story, titled "Maneki Neko", in "A Good Old-Fashioned Future" by Bruce Sterling might get you excited about this kind of thing.
  • London interactive demo sites' contest.
  • Make the LETS Trust an integrative & active body, or rely in another(new?) for legal support, fundraising, promoting, etc.. .
