The model of the self sustaining artist who learns and aquires knowledge for their own enrichment is in some ways an ideal citizen of a neoliberal state having no expectation of state support in the form of a pension or other financial support structures. Are artists who work in schools in danger of being promoted as role models to children and young people whose welfare the government is not committed to sustaining?

Is there a danger in placing the ideas of acces and excellence at oppostite ends of the scale? who is being 'allowed' to access the 'excellence' of high art?

Are artists using a colonial form of engagement when the people involved are also in some ways the material?

How are art practices that have traditionally operated outside of galleries implicated in current governemnt policies on access and inclusion?
