At its simplest, applied chaos theory is somewhat like trying to watch everything in a wide-screen movie at once: keeping the mind unfocused enough to take in everything on the event horizon without losing a grip on the reason for doing so.

Briefly, the technique works thus:

Setting the intent is phase one.

Putting in the legwork is phase two.

Letting go of it is phase three, and arguably the most difficult.

Chaos magicians have often worked under the maxim 'Nothing is true: everything is permitted', as if that justified using these techniques simply to get what the existing structures tell you to want. However, the Faculty emphasises that this is ultimately a self-destructive path as it denies the magician the discipline of self-mastery.

Applied chaos theory uses the techniques of chaos magic within the framework of reconstruction to facilitate a conscious collaboration with the unknown and a set of results both unexpected and deeply anticipated.
